Environment policy
Environmental work – for a better future
Working actively on environmental issues is something we at Hissmekano see as self-evident today. Hissmekano shares the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s opinion that the emission of greenhouse gases – primarily carbon dioxide (CO2) – caused by human activity is affecting the world’s climate. In the Kyoto Protocol, the majority of industrialised countries have agreed to reduce their emissions of greenhouse gases. Hissmekano AB also shares the UN’s concern regarding global warming and the discharge of various high-risk waste. We believe that the Kyoto Protocol and other national and international initiatives are important steps in the fight against greenhouse gases and efforts to stabilise temperatures globally.
Today the entire company is actively dedicated to reducing its emissions of greenhouse gases, improving its handling of environmentally hazardous waste and recycling other waste. The company also considers it tremendously important not to waste natural resources. To provide support and guidance in our environmental work, we have drawn up this Environmental Document, 1.0. In it employees, customers and suppliers can find out about our environmental work. We also touch upon what we expect of our suppliers. In our environmental work, ourEnvironmental Policy shall be our guiding light. It tells us how we should work to achieve our Environmental Goals. Our vision is to do what we can to contribute to long-term, sustainable social development and higher shareholder value, and to give Hissmekano AB a more modern profile.
Environmental management and organisation
At Hissmekano AB, the Managing Director has overriding responsibility for environmental work and how it is allocated in the organisation. Unless otherwise stated, environmental responsibility follows the same chain of custody as the company’s line organisation. Moreover, we encourage our employees to take their own responsibility and initiatives in suggesting anything, however large or small, that can help strengthen the company’s environmental efforts. Employees have access to information regarding Hissmekano AB’s environmental work.
The plant
Our factory in Täby plays a pivotal role in our environmental work. It must house the necessary material and equipment for conducting our business in an environmentally sound way.
Suppliers
At Hissmekano AB, we would like to see all our suppliers take a proactive approach to environmental consideration. ISO 14001 certification is a good starting point for environmental work. Not all companies are ISO certified, so we have stipulated basic requirements that we expect all our suppliers to fulfil:
- All operations carried out by the company must be in keeping with prevailing laws and regulations.
- The operation’s environmental consequences must be clearly charted.
- There must be an environmental policy in place.
- The company shall actively work towards set environmental goals or conduct some other kind of environmental development work.
Environmental Policy
As mentioned above, Hissmekano AB is aware of global environmental issues and its ability to have an impact, whether direct or indirect. Therefore Hissmekano AB shall follow pre-defined guiding principles in its day-to-day endeavour to reduce environmental impact:
- Environmental work shall form a natural part of ensuring a sustainable social environment, sustainable financial profitability and a strong corporate brand.
- The company shall be aware of direct and indirect environmental impact.
- The company shall conduct its business in an environmentally friendly way, comply with prevailing laws and ordinances in the area and inform its personnel of these.
- The company shall promote environmental responsibility in the parts of the production chain that Hissmekano AB is able to influence.
- The company shall use energy and resource-efficient solutions in production as far as possible.
- The company shall market and develop products and systems that use fewer resources and facilitate use.
- Environmental aspects shall be considered in all major projects.
Environmental Goals
Working for a better environment is not something to be undertaken lightly or hastily. We have therefore formulated a number of Environmental Goals to be achieved within different time spans. Firstly there are the Operational Environmental Goals, which we have largely already achieved. The Tactical/Strategic Environmental Goals are something for the company to work on more long-term, over one to five years. The reason why the Tactical/Strategic Environmental Goals have not been more closely defined is that we have not yet decided which ones are to be the highest priority.
Operational Environmental Goals:
- The workplaces shall have procedures for separating waste at source.
- Economic use of water and electricity.
- Recycle paper at the workplace by grinding it down into packaging material.
- Recycle excess metal scrap from production.
- Recycle scrapped electrical components.
- Consider environmental aspects when buying products/services.
- Encourage the use of public transport for corporate activities as far as possible.
- Deal with high-risk waste in accordance with prevailing procedures.
Tactical/Strategic Environmental Goals:
- Reduce the use of resources in our production processes.
- Help strengthen the brand by drawing on the increasing significance of environmental issues in society, in a businesslike way.
- Integrate our customers and suppliers in our environmental work.
- Minimise direct and indirect environmental impact from the company’s operations.
- Report on and evaluate our environmental work in an annual Environmental Report.
The future
In the long term, we believe our environmental efforts will lead to a better environment and greater financial profitability for Hissmekano AB. We also believe that society as a whole will benefit from a stronger focus on environmental work, as fewer resources will be used and more will be re-used and recycled. We thereby hope to be able to contribute to better, sustainable development in society.
